No More Squawking From Me For a While

Greetings JCCS Community

This is the final installment of the weekly squawk for 2017-2018. Where has the time gone? This year seems to have flown by in some respects and dragged along in others. Have you ever noticed this about time? That something can seem to have happened yesterday, yet also seemed to have been forever ago.

I think about this often in terms of my children. My son has only been a part of my family for a little over a year and yet I have difficulty remember a life where he wasn’t a part of it.

I find that this is true every school year as well. I look at our Grade 8 graduating class and have difficulty imagining JCCS where they are not walking through the halls each and every day.

I suppose that this is the reality of time and our existence. Change; sometimes easy, sometimes difficult; is something that inevitably comes and the world that we had been comfortable in is now shifted and we must become accustomed.

This is never more true than in the growth of children. Every year, I like to reflect on the students that WERE in September and that students that ARE in June. There is such a great difference in the physical stature of some of them, but yet, what is more impressive is the emotional and spiritual maturity that they can display. Some students go from those that can barely look you in the eye and say “Good Morning” to ones that ask you about how you are doing and if you have seen the new Star Wars movie. Other students go from asking about details of Bible stories to what the point of having personal faith in Christ is.

I think we sometimes do not like the idea of change because it is unknown and scary; however, it is truly where those little delights can come from. Without the changes in the kids, we would not be able to have those kinds of moments where they provide awe. I encourage you in the coming months over the summer to enjoy the change that summer brings. For students and teachers alike, it is an opportunity to refresh and rejuvenate for a coming school year. It is an opportunity to look back at what has been in this past year, and what improvements can happen in the year to come.

We hope and pray that God blesses you and your family in the coming months. We thank you for partnering with us in this past school year in growing and nurturing your children. We delight in the joy that the change into summer brings and we look forward to sharing in community when we regather in September.
